- Snowmobiling
- A huge attraction to the area is the 200-plus miles of trails which are patrolled and beautifully maintained by three local snowmobile clubs. Rent a machine and take a guided tour of some of the most secluded and scenic spots you’ll ever see. No trail fees! Also take advantage of the many lodging, dining and service outlets located conveniently near the trail systems.
- Skiing and Snowboarding
- Rush down the slopes of the Adirondack Mountains at one of three ski areas. Ski or snowboard at Dynamite Hill in Chestertown or West Mountain in Glens Falls for a smaller and more intimate atmosphere. Gore Mountain in North Creek is a true hidden gem in the Northeast. The lines are short, the lifts fast and plentiful, the views majestic, the snowmaking exceptional and the terrain — it totally rocks!
- Recapture Your Youth
- Whether you have kids or not, there’s no reason you can’t act like one! Go ice skating and sledding or tobogganing, build a snowman, have a snowball fight and make snow angels. When Jack Frost has sufficiently nipped at your nose, head to a local restaurant for a hearty and delicious meal. Finish the day by curling up in your cozy B&B, inn or Adirondack-style lodge and sip hot cocoa by a crackling fireplace.
- Winter Horseback Riding and Sleigh Rides
- Experience the beauty of the snow-covered Adirondacks with your favorite four-legged creatures. Take a guided horseback ride on a secluded trail or bundle up, sit back, and enjoy a good old-fashioned sleigh ride.
- Ice Fishing
- Anglers take refuge in a shanty and spend the day in search of Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Landlocked Salmon, and Yellow Perch. Use a guide to show you the best places to drop your line. Lake George is the largest and most popular, but more secluded and peaceful sweet spots include Glen Lake, Trout Lake, Brant Lake and Schroon Lake.
- Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing
- Explore the snowy wilderness on snowshoes or cross-country skis — follow a trail into the woods and take in the winter wonderland around you. Rent equipment from your lodge, inn or B&B and try their well-groomed trails or take a guided trip. Some trails are even lit so you can enjoy the beautiful serenity on a quiet winter’s night.
- Don’t Forget to Pack Your Swimsuit
- There may be snow on the ground, but that doesn’t mean you can’t splash around at a waterpark! The Six Flags Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Waterpark is the only one of its kind in the state of New York and features eight primary attractions, including a massive multi-level play structure with nearly 160 interactive elements. It also includes a FlowRider — a continual sheet wave for bodyboarding and stand-up surfing — an Adventure River where you can leisurely float past cooling water sprays and spouts, an Activity Play Lagoon and Basketball Pool, a Shallow Wading Pool with themed water activities, a family raft ride and tube water slides.
