DON'T LET GAS PRICES KEEP YOU HOME THIS SUMMER
Lake George Area Has Free Coupons to Help Offset Gas Costs
WARREN COUNTY, NY (May 4, 2007) - Planning your vacation but concerned that gas prices will limit your family to watching reruns on the Travel Channel all summer?
In an unusual twist Warren County is offering a package of 26 coupons with a total value of nearly $700. The cost savings are more than enough to offset increases in gas prices. Coupons are for lodging, attractions, dining, campgrounds and restaurants.
"For a family-friendly region that thrives on summer tourism, high gas prices could have a significant impact on our economy," said Kate Johnson, director of the Warren County Tourism Department.
"We - along with our businesses and attractions - have created savings opportunities for families visiting the region through coupons that will more than pay for the cost of the gas to get here. This year we have more coupons and savings opportunities than ever. Families thinking about where to spend their summer vacation will have a terrific time in the Lake George Area and find a terrific value at the same time," continued Ms. Johnson.
Located about 200 miles north of New York City, Warren County is home to pristine Lake George, the queen of American lakes, and a bevy of family-friendly destinations and activities including amusement parks, campgrounds, diverse shopping, lakes and rivers for boating, rafting and fishing, arts and culture, history and so much more.
Warren County began offering coupons more than a decade ago but this year the promotion takes on new meaning. It will help families offset escalating gas prices. Last year, the average price for gasoline in New York State during the prime tourism months of May through August was $3.08 per gallon. At that price, families in a Toyota Camry, the best-selling car in 2006, paid approximately $19 to drive from New York City to Lake George for gasoline alone. Regardless of how high gas prices go, coupons will help families enjoy the great outdoors first-hand rather than watching it from their living rooms.
The coupons are available on The Lake George Area website, www.visitlakegeorge.com, or by calling the 1-800-365-1050 x5100.
The Lake George Area in the Adirondacks is an easy-to-reach and cost friendly vacation destination for the whole family. With easy access off Interstate-87, off-season pricing and free centralized parking in each town, the Lake George Area in the Adirondacks should be a definite on your spring getaway list.
