What Americade is All About
The Americade Motorcycle Touring Rally is one of the grandest motorcycle events in the country. Americade began in May 1983 as Aspencade East, a nod to another motorcycle rally in New Mexico. The rally was renamed to Americade in 1986 to celebrate the reality of what Americade had become: a multi-faceted celebration of motorcycles. Americade is now one of the largest motorcycle touring rallies in the world.
If you love motorcycles there's no doubt that you'll love Americade. There’s a reason why people travel from all over the country to the Lake George Area every June: there’s absolutely nothing like this event. A morning stroll in the early summer heat down the streets of Lake George Village brings you by hundreds of unique motorcycles and their owners. Attendees could spend a full six days strolling the sidewalks and talking motorcycles. Since this is a multi-brand convention, the varying tastes of motorcycle riders all have a place to call home. You can find Harley Davidsons, Hondas, Indians, Yamahas and everything else on the streets of Lake George Village during Americade.
This is Motorcycle Paradise
Of course, if you bring your bike to Americade you’re going to want to ride. Americade offers guided rides daily, bringing riders through the winding mountain roads of the Adirondacks and the long green byways of Vermont with a stop for lunch at local restaurants in the middle. New this year to Americade is the Amazing Ride, an unguided tour through seven different communities in the Lake George Area. Collect a stamp from each community over the course of the rally and hand them in for a chance to win an awesome prize.
For those who like to learn about all things motorcycle, Americade University is a program that brings well-known and experienced writers, speakers, and industry experts to Americade to give entertaining and educational seminars and talks. Learn about cooking on the road, proper cornering technique, and more.
If you’re at Americade looking for a new motorcycle or some new gear, you’re probably not going home empty-handed. Americade is home to a massive expo that offers demos, displays, and gear. Companies that will be at the expo include Aprilia, BMW, Harley Davidson, Honda, Indian, and more. If you would like to demo a bike make sure you bring the proper gear and licenses.
More Than Just Motorcycles
The great thing about Americade in the Lake George Area is there is so much to do in addition to motorcycle events. When you get hungry after a long day on the road or at the expo there are dozens of options for dining in the Lake George Area. Dining options run the gamut from burgers and fries to upscale Italian. Waterfront restaurants offer a unique way to see Lake George while enjoying a meal and a cold craft beer from a local brewery.
You can’t leave the Lake George Area without actually getting on the lake. One of the classic ways to do this is on a boat cruise on Lake George. These massive cruise ships serve delicious meals while cruising the lake and narrating the sights. The secluded camping islands and the mansions that line the shores are some of the highlights of the cruise. Stand outside on the deck as you admire the southern Adirondack Mountains then head inside to enjoy fried chicken, baked beans, and more. The Friday night Fireworks Cruise on the Lake George Steamboat Company's Minne-Ha-Ha is a truly special way to see the lake and take in the show. Watching the fireworks show from the deck of the Minne-Ha-Ha is as close to the action as you can get.
And Great Music Too
One of the biggest non-motorcycle events of Americade is the block party. The live music and entertainment begins on Friday night with live classic rock, country, southern rock, the Globe of Death, and more. The fun continues on Saturday with live blues, funk, modern country, NFL stars signing autographs, the Globe of Death, and more. The Americade Block Party takes place on Beach Road.
So if you're a motorcycle lover, or you think you may want to be, head to Lake George Village this summer. Take a ride, check out some gear, and take in those Adirondack views. It's easy to see why Americade is one of the Lake George Area's most cherished annual events.
